Glitch presets and intensity guide
| Preset | Intensity | Regions |
|---|---|---|
| Mild | 15 | Above + below |
| Glitch | 40 | All three |
| Corrupted | 70 | All three |
| Cursed | 100 | All three |
| Platform | Suggestion |
|---|---|
| Discord | Mild to Glitch; high intensity can overflow messages. |
| TikTok | Mild; captions are often clipped at the edges. |
| Mild; bios and comments have tight line heights. | |
| Roblox | Glitch; some game fonts ignore combining marks. |
| Minecraft | Mild; chat width and font support vary by server. |
How to use this translator
- 1
Type or paste text
Enter text in the left box. The right box updates with combining marks added above, through and below the letters.
- 2
Choose a preset or build your own
Start with Mild, Glitch, Corrupted or Cursed, then fine-tune the intensity and the three mark regions with the controls below the tool.
- 3
Randomize the pattern
Randomize changes the seed, so the same text gets a different arrangement of marks. The seed is included in share links, so the recipient sees the same result.
- 4
Copy and test
Copy the output into the app where you plan to use it. Very high intensity can break line spacing or be truncated by a platform, so test before posting.
How glitch text works
Glitch text, often called Zalgo, is ordinary text with Unicode combining marks inserted after each character. The marks are the same mechanism used for accents, but many of them stack above and below the line.
Unicode assigns each combining mark a combining class. Marks that share a class are stacked in order; marks from different classes are placed above, below or through the base character. This is why the same text can look different in different fonts.
Why the same text looks different everywhere
Each browser, operating system and app chooses its own font and line-height rules. A string that fits neatly in one app may overflow or be clipped in another. Mobile apps often limit how many combining marks they render.
Some platforms also normalize or strip unusual sequences before displaying them. The glitch text is still in the text layer, but what you see is a rendering decision made by the app.
Removing the glitch
Because the extra characters are combining marks, the clean version is recovered by Unicode normalization: decompose the text, remove the marks, and compose it again. This also removes ordinary accents, so “café” becomes “cafe”.
Keep a clean copy of important text before adding glitch styling. A copied message that looks fine on your phone may be unreadable or rejected elsewhere.
Length limits and accessibility
Every combining mark is a separate Unicode code point, even though it may not take up horizontal space. A short word at high intensity can become hundreds of code points, and some services count those characters against a limit or reject the message outright.
Screen readers may announce marks as separate characters or skip them, and search engines generally index the base letters rather than the decorations. Use glitch text for decoration, not for names, prices, instructions or anything a reader must parse reliably.
Common mistakes
Using maximum intensity everywhere
High intensity can overlap lines, break form fields and be cut off by social apps. Use the lowest intensity that gives the effect you want.
Assuming the preview matches the final app
Chat apps, games and social networks use different fonts and line heights. Always paste the result into the destination app before publishing.
Using glitch text for important information
Screen readers and search engines may not read the decorated text the way you expect. Keep names, addresses and instructions in plain text.
Putting it in usernames or URLs
Many account systems restrict scripts or normalize text before saving it. A username that looks unique in the preview can be rejected, collapsed to plain letters, or collide with an existing account.
Frequently asked questions
What is glitch text?
Glitch text is normal text with Unicode combining marks added to create a distorted, corrupted or cursed appearance. It is also called Zalgo text.
Is glitch text safe?
It is plain text and does not run code. Some people find heavy glitch text hard to read, and some apps truncate it, so use it with care.
Why does my glitch text look different on another phone?
The marks are rendered by the app and font on that device. Different fonts, line heights and platform filters produce different results.
Can I remove glitch text?
Yes. Pasting it into the output box and reading the left box removes the combining marks through Unicode normalization.
Where can I use glitch text?
It works in most text fields, including Discord, TikTok captions, Instagram bios and game chats. Test the exact app and keep the intensity moderate.
How many characters does glitch text add?
It depends on the intensity and the regions you enable. At the maximum settings this tool adds up to 18 combining marks per base character, so a ten-letter word can contain more than 190 code points.
Is glitch text accessible?
It can be difficult for screen readers and people with reading difficulties. Use it as decoration, keep the plain text available, and avoid it for essential information.
