How to make cursed text

  1. 1

Type the message you want to curse

Start with plain text. The tool applies the Cursed preset by default: marks above, through and below every letter at full strength.

  2. 2

    Compare the four style cards

Creepy, Void, Glitched and Demonic use different regions and intensities. Each card shows the finished text, so you can pick the mood before you copy.

  3. 3

Clean a message back to normal

Paste a cursed message into either box and press Clean to normal text. The tool removes the combining marks and returns the original letters.

  4. 4

Test it where you plan to post

Copy the result into the app, game or profile field that will display it. Fonts and line heights change how heavy the decoration looks.

Why cursed text looks unsettling

Cursed text is ordinary letters with extra Unicode marks attached. The marks have no width of their own, so they pile up above, through and below the letter that owns them. A word that normally occupies one clean line starts to look scratched, dripped or partly erased.

The effect is strongest when the marks are uneven. A few marks make a word look damaged; many marks make it look like it is falling apart.

Choosing a cursed style

Creepy keeps the marks above and below the letters at a moderate strength. It looks like a haunted label or an old warning sign, and it usually stays readable at normal font sizes. Void removes the marks above the letters and pushes everything downward, which gives a sinking, dripping feel.

Glitched uses only the marks that run through the letters, so the word looks scanned or corrupted rather than haunted. Demonic turns all three regions on at full strength and is the heaviest option. Use it for a short title or a jump-scare caption, not for a paragraph that someone has to read.

Keeping a cursed message readable

Readability depends on the base letters more than the number of marks. Short words in a large font survive heavy decoration; long sentences in a small font turn into a texture. If the message matters, start with Creepy or Glitched and increase the effect only until it feels right.

Line spacing is the other limit. Tall marks can overlap the line above, and some apps clip anything outside a fixed row height. Leave a blank line before and after a cursed heading, and avoid placing it in a table cell or a narrow button where the app controls the height.

What to test before you post

Paste the result into the final destination before publishing. A preview on this page cannot predict how a game chat, a social app or a profile field will render the same characters. If the text disappears, collapses into boxes or becomes impossible to read, go back to a lighter preset.

Where cursed text works best

DiscordMild to Glitch; high intensity can overflow messages.
TikTokMild; captions are often clipped at the edges.
InstagramMild; bios and comments have tight line heights.
RobloxGlitch; some game fonts ignore combining marks.
MinecraftMild; chat width and font support vary by server.

These are suggestions, not fixed rules. Test the exact destination before posting.

Common mistakes

  • Cursing an entire paragraph

A wall of heavily marked text is tiring to read and often gets clipped. Use the effect on a title, a name or a short line instead.

  • Assuming every app shows the same result

Each platform chooses its own font and line height. The same string can look subtle on one phone and unreadable on another.

  • Losing the plain version

Keep an unmarked copy of anything important. The Clean to normal text button can recover the letters, but it also removes ordinary accents such as the one in café.

  • Using cursed text in a username

Many account systems reject unusual characters or normalize them before saving. A name that looks unique in the preview can be refused or turned into plain letters.

Frequently asked questions

What makes text look cursed?

The letters stay the same, but Unicode combining marks are attached to them. The marks stack above, through or below each letter, so the text looks damaged without changing the underlying word.

Which cursed preset should I choose?

Creepy is the safest for longer text, Void suits a slow dripping look, Glitched looks digital, and Demonic is the heaviest. Start light and move up only if the destination app still displays the message clearly.

Can I use cursed text in Roblox or Minecraft?

Often yes, but the result depends on the game's font and chat width. Test a short line first. Some servers filter unusual characters, and some game fonts ignore the extra marks entirely.

Do all apps show cursed text the same way?

No. The characters are the same everywhere, but the font, line height and text filtering are chosen by the app. Expect the effect to look stronger or weaker on different devices.

Can I use cursed text in a username or display name?

Some services allow it and others reject it. Names are often normalized or restricted to a safe character set, so a decorated name may be refused, shortened or turned back into plain letters.

Is cursed text the same as Zalgo text?

They use the same mechanism: combining marks stacked around base characters. Cursed text is a style label, while Zalgo is the older name for the technique. This page uses the label that matches the spooky look people search for.
